Development Academy

The SSL Academy Development Program is an eight-month, skill-driven pathway designed to enhance each player’s ability while fostering a lasting love for the game. Through professionally trained coaches, players receive high-quality, age-appropriate instruction during these critical developmental years, building a strong technical and tactical foundation. The program prepares players to progress into the Classic level and beyond in a supportive and engaging environment focused on confidence and growth.

Assesments

Assessments for the SSL Academy Development Program open each year in mid-May, providing players with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and be considered for placement within the program. To ensure accessibility and flexibility for families, supplemental assessments are offered periodically throughout the year for players who are new to the area or who develop an interest in joining after the initial evaluation period. This approach allows SSL to continuously welcome and identify players who are eager to grow within a structured, development-focused environment. For more information or to express interest, families are encouraged to contact academy@ssl-nc.com.

Player Offer & Registration

Once players have been assessed and offered a position within the program, families must complete the registration process through Seashore Soccer League’s online registration portal. All registrations are finalized upon approval by our Certified Registrar, ensuring accuracy and compliance with State & League requirements. As part of their registration, all players receive supplemental insurance coverage, providing an added layer of protection and peace of mind for families as their children participate and develop within the SSL program.

Trainings & Seasons

The SSL Academy Development Program is an eight-month program divided into Fall (mid-August to mid-November) and Spring (February to April) seasons. During these primary seasons, players train twice per week in 60-minute sessions, providing consistent, structured development in a focused and engaging environment.

Practice Locations

Academy teams are based on players' birth year, gender and skill level. Teams will practice at Rotary Park and Western Park:

  • Rotary Park: Morehead City
  • Western Park- Cape Carteret

Festivals & Matches

Academy teams primarily play games on Saturday mornings against other local Academy teams, providing consistent and competitive match experience. Each season also includes approximately 5–6 “Academy Festivals,” where teams compete against outside clubs in a mini-tournament format, typically playing two games in a single Saturday. These festivals offer players additional opportunities to apply their training in a fun, game-focused environment while experiencing a broader level of competition.

Uniforms

All SSL Academy players are required to purchase their official uniform kit through the online link below. The kit includes two game jerseys (one Royal and one Light Grey), black shorts, two pairs of socks (Royal and Black), and one black training jersey.
