Reuben Ray Lilly, Jr. Memorial Coaches Day Tournament

The first annual Reuben Ray Lilly, Jr. Memorial Coaches Day Tournament turned out well. Even after moving the event from Saturday to Sunday we still had a good turn out. We raised more than $700 for the SSL Coaches Fund to be used towards clinics and coaches materials. We hope to do this at least once a year, some would like to have it at the end of each season (spring & fall), but we will have to see if time will permit. We are planning to have a coaches clinic for all the SSL coaches this spring, which now will be free of charge, thanks to this event.

Reuben's family members and friends baked up a lot goodies to sell and all were sold by the end of the day. We sold approximately 80 hot dogs and lots of drinks and chips. Reuben's son, Jake Lilly and daughter, London Lilly came from New Bern for the event, along with his father, sisters & cousins from Mill Creek and Morehead City. And of course, I was there all day (Reuben's widow).

We hope to have the event bigger each time. We are planning to have t-shirts next time for the players and to purchase for the next event and get more sponsors to help make it even bigger and better. Ralph's Sign Shop, Inc. provided a great banner that can be used at each event; as well as donations from Texas Steakhouse, Pepsi, JD's Services and a special thanks to Chris Caton, Melody Henning & her daughters Tara & Michaela for coordinating all the games and getting this whole event started.

The winning team was the Referee/Official team (white shirts). The last picture is one of the winning Referee team and the 2nd place team, Team Chris (in SSL blue shirts), the gal in all black was the main referee for the event, Michaela.
